Outstanding clinical nurse specialist advocating for older persons with psychosis named ¹úÄÚ¾«Æ·ÒÁÈ˾þþþø¾ Wales Nurse of the Year 2024
Madelaine Watkins works within Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) and her amazing efforts to improve access for older persons dealing with psychosis, and educating staff earned her the title of Wales Nurse of the Year at last night’s (21 November) 11th annual ¹úÄÚ¾«Æ·ÒÁÈ˾þþþø¾ Wales Nurse of the Year Awards.

Out of area placements symptom of mental health system without enough beds or staff, says ¹úÄÚ¾«Æ·ÒÁÈ˾þþþø¾
¹úÄÚ¾«Æ·ÒÁÈ˾þþþø¾ UK Professional Lead for Mental Health Ben Thomas said: “Some of the most vulnerable are being shunted around the country at a time when they need stability. This is a symptom of a mental health system which has neither the beds nor the workforce to deliver care closer to home. It’s an unacceptable way to treat people, disrupting treatment plans, slowing recovery and delaying discharge."

¹úÄÚ¾«Æ·ÒÁÈ˾þþþø¾ Chief Nursing Officer Lynn Woolsey, said: “Modernising the Mental Health Act is welcome, but these long overdue reforms won’t be successful unless we address the crisis in the workforce.
